100g The Organic Smokehouse Oak Smoked Extra Virgin Olive Oil. This lovely green oil is fantastic for salad dressings or simply served with sea salt and ciabatta bread. The Extra Virgin Olive Oil is made from Manzarina olives, grown outside the village of Pluti at an altitiude of 600 metres on the slopes of Mount Psiloritis in Crete. There are about 500 olive trees varying from 30 to 300 years old.
The olive groves have been registered organic for 15 years. The nature of the soil, the exposure to the sunlight and the area's micro climate constitute the ideal conditions for olive cultivation. The estate runs its lands according to the organic farming regulations and its extra virgin olive oil is certified by the relevant authorities. But since the more rigorous climate represents a natural immunization against the usual olive parasites, not even the pesticide methods allowed by the organic farming authority are used.
The olives are hand picked from the trees in the earliest part of the season. Then care is taken during the various picking and handling operations in order to prevent any damage.
The oil is "cold" pressed, allowing the resulting oil to retain the olives deep fruity flavours and the fresh, spicy aromas. The extra virgin olive oil is also characterized by a very low acidity degree of no more than 0.5%, which gives it an incomparable aroma. Our Organic smoked extra virgin olive oil can be combined with pasta, bread, fish, meat and vegetables, and it is at its best if eaten raw, fantastic for salad dressings or simply served with sea salt and ciabatta bread.
